Squigglepig is a drawing and guessing party game, played in the app or on the web at play.squigglepig.app. It has no accounts and never asks for your real name, email address or any other personal details.
Your guest ID
The first time you create or join a game, the app signs in to the game server as a guest. Nothing is asked: the server gives your device a random ID, and the app keeps it so the game knows you're the same player when you come back. It isn't linked to your name, your email, your phone number or anything else about you. A guest ID that hasn't been used for 180 days, and has nothing attached to it, is deleted.
What you share with other players
To play together, the app sends these to the other players in your room:
- the username you type in (it doesn't have to be your real name)
- the four-letter room code
- the prompts and captions you write, the drawings you make, and your guesses
- how you've dressed your pig (its outfit and speech bubble), if you've changed it
- whether you have the app open right now, so the others can see who is away
This game traffic is relayed in real time through Supabase, a hosting service, over an encrypted connection.
What the game server keeps, and for how long
So that you stay in your room when you close the app, the game server keeps a few things while a room is open:
- Who is in the room: your guest ID, your username and when you joined. Removed when you tap Leave game (if you leave during a game, when that game ends), or when the room closes.
- The game in progress: its prompts, drawings, guesses and scores, so the game can carry on if everyone closes the app at once. Deleted when the game ends or the room closes.
- When anyone last did something in the room. A room nobody has done anything in for 10 minutes is closed, and everything above is deleted with it.
Games aren't kept after they end, and closed rooms can't be reopened.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Squigglepig tells you about the room you're in while the app isn't open: when someone enters or leaves the lobby, and, if you're away, that the game has started or that it's your turn. To send them, the app gives the game server a push token for your device from Expo, the service that delivers them (through Apple or Google). The token is used for nothing else.
Turn notifications off in the app's menu (☰ › Notifications) and the token is deleted from the server straight away. A token that hasn't been refreshed for 90 days is deleted too. You can also turn notifications off in your phone's settings. The web version doesn't send notifications.
Solo games
Solo games are played on your own device. To play Trivia, the app downloads questions from the Open Trivia Database (opentdb.com), a free public question service. Nothing about you is sent with that request.
Rewards you win in solo games stay on your device. They aren't linked to you or stored anywhere else, so they're lost if you uninstall the app or clear its data. Nothing in Squigglepig is for sale: rewards are only won by playing.
What stays on your device
The app keeps a few things on your phone (or in your browser, for the web version) so it works the way you left it:
- your guest ID
- your username and room code, so it can take you back into your room
- your settings: light or dark mode, high contrast, reduce motion, seasonal themes, sound, whether notifications are on, and whether you've seen the walkthrough
- the rewards you've won, the theme you chose and how you've dressed your pig
- trivia questions saved for your next solo games, and which ones you've already been asked, so you don't get repeats
- the list of birthdays the app celebrates with a birthday theme
Apart from what this policy describes above, none of it is sent anywhere. Uninstalling the app, or clearing the site's data in your browser, deletes it.
Your IP address
Like any internet connection, your device's IP address is visible to the services the app connects to: Supabase (multiplayer games and the birthday list), Expo (push notifications), the Open Trivia Database (trivia questions) and Cloudflare (which hosts the web version). Squigglepig doesn't record or use your IP address, and sends these services nothing else about you.
What the app does not do
- No advertising, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party code that collects data.
- No location, contacts, camera, microphone or photo access.
- No marketing notifications: only ones about the room you're in.
- No purchases.
Reporting
To report something inappropriate that another player shared, email [email protected] with the room code and their username. Reports are reviewed.
Children
Squigglepig is intended for players aged 13 and over.
Deleting your data
Most of it deletes itself: tap Leave game to take yourself out of a room, and games and rooms are deleted when they end or close. Turning notifications off deletes your push token. What the app keeps on your device is removed when you uninstall it or clear its data. To have your guest ID and anything tied to it deleted now, email [email protected].
